  1. I watched this film on an airplane last year and really enjoyed it. When the film the first released I remember reading an interesting article about Mr. Rogers's relationship with St. Vincent College (a Catholic institution in his hometown of Latrobe, PA), where the Fred Rogers Center is based. Though he was not Catholic himself, it's interesting to think about the influence of that environment on his thinking.

Re: Julie's mention of Wishbone - As a 90s kid, it was one of my favorite TV shows! We taped so many episodes on VHS to re-watch again and again. I'm definitely going to have to hunt down a DVD set for when my kid(s) are old enough. I can unabashedly say that my high score on the AP English Lit exam is largely attributable to Wishbone. One of the big essay questions was on Don Quixote, which I had never read in full, but thanks to my memory of the Wishbone episode, I was familiar enough with the plot to write a coherent essay (the fact that our school's musical production for that year was Man of La Mancha probably also helped...). I was introduced to so many classic stories through the show, including the story of Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe, interestingly enough.

    1. I'd completely forgotten the story of Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe but now that you mention it — yes, what an unexpected inclusion. Well done, with Wishbone as Juan Diego complete with cloak full of roses as I recall. :-)

  2. I also forgot to add that there is apparently a Wishbone movie currently in development. I don't trust it will be anywhere near as good as the TV show, but one can always hope, I guess?
