  1. This was a movie I did not expect much from, but was more than pleasantly surprised to find a good story well told and taking advantage of the video medium. Just a great movie.

Shows Will Ferrell can actually act and can do something with source material that isn't the usual juvenile fare he usually has - somebody get him an agent that can read out bad scripts. Though I did love him in Elf a movie I watch yearly.

He kind of reminds me of Jim Carrey who also makes some real juvenile movies and then can turn around and do something superb like "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MInd" and "The Truman Show." In fact those two movies are ones I would love for the both of you to cover since they are so rich in meaning.

In fact while I am suggesting movies I would suggest another one from the writer of "The Truman Show" Andrew Nicool - Gattaca - a movie I dearly loved for both being great SF and addressing the issue of genetic engineering in an intelligent way.

  2. Jeff, we really think alike. Gattaca and The Truman Show are both on my list (and may be on Scott's as well for all I know ... though I like how he keeps surprising me with movies I never heard of or keep putting off). I have long meant to watch Eternal Sunshine and so must move it up my list. Rose in particular keeps telling me how good it is.

Just fyi, she mentioned that we might enjoy discussing Down Low ... so if you haven't seen that you might like it. (Not that she listens, but she gets plenty of that kind of talk all the time so she knows the score on what movies are good for this podcast.)

  3. Gattaca would be a great one! And Eternal Sunshine... and The Truman Show...

We watch "Elf" nearly every year, but my family's can't miss Christmas movie is "Mixed Nuts".

  4. Truman Show was good. Looking into Gattaca now. How about anything by Whit Stillman? Metropolitan, Last Days of Disco, Barcelona?

  5. I haven't seen any of those. Scott?
